The Ambience
Tresco – An idyllic paradise
island some 30 miles west of Land’s
End with spectacular white sandy beaches
surrounded by turquoise-blue waters,
rugged moorland, ancient woodland and
sheltered bulb fields; the “jewel”
in the islands’ crown. Easily
accessible, Tresco is invitingly beautiful;
a kaleidoscope of colour – refreshing!
Adjacent to Tresco lies Bryher –
wild and untamed, overlooking the Norrard
Rocks and facing the roaring, blue Atlantic
Ocean. |

The Migrant Birds
Internationally famous for migrants –
Raptors, Waders, Warblers, Pipits and Wagtails,
Chats and Flycatchers to name just a few!
Arriving from Scandinavia, Russia, Southern
Europe and North America, regular scarce visitors
include the Great Northern Diver, Spotted
Crake, Pectoral Sandpiper, Dotterel, Wryneck,
Tawny Pipit, Ortolan and Lapland Buntings,
Barred Warbler, Red-Backed Shrike and Firecrest. |
The Itinerary
Migrant birds arrive on all the islands
so, apart from the Tresco Great Pool and famous
Abbey Garden, come and
visit St Martins, Bryher and St Agnes to search
out the newly arrived birds. Something special
is always found! In windy weather Kittiwakes,
Fulmars and Gannets along with Skuas and Shearwaters
pass by the northern headlands. Tresco is
very much for the discerning naturalist! |

Your Tour Leader
All tours will be led by ornithologist
David Rosair who operates Island Ventures
and leads tours around the islands of Britain
and overseas. Author of “The Photographic
Guide to the Waders of the World”, he
has made over 80 visits to Tresco during the
last 35 years. |
