The habitat?
Hides overlooking “Scrapes”
of both fresh and salt water lagoons
tucked in behind the seawall, conifer
plantations, reedbeds, estuarine channels,
mudflats and sandbanks stretching
to the horizon, the open North Sea
– it can only be Norfolk!

The Birds?
The ornithological “mecca”! Skeins
of winter geese including Pink-footed &
Brent, sea-duck especially Eider, Common &
Velvet Scoter, Goldeneye, Pintail & Red-breasted
Merganser, Red-throated Diver & Slavonian
Grebe. Peregrine, Marsh & Hen Harrier
along with Bittern & Barn Owl. Thousands
of waders, notably Knot along with Golden
Plover, Bar-tailed Godwit & Ruff. Diurnal
passerine movements of thrushes, finches,
starlings & larks can be very impressive,
along with late seabirds including skuas and
Little Auks. Snow Bunting & Shore Lark,
Bearded Tit & Cetti’s Warbler, with
rarities an annual occurrence. Norfolk just
always attracts birds, and more birds! |
The Itinerary
All the classic birding spots will
be visited including Titchwell & Snettisham
RSPB Reserves, Holkham Gap, Cley NWT, Hunstanton
Cliffs and Wells Woods. |
The Accommodation
4 nights based at the comfortable
and friendly Briarfields Hotel, conveniently
situated alongside the Titchwell RSPB Reserve
and giving easy access to all the major birding
sites. |

only small distances are involved and there
