Morning flight from Brisbane to Port
Moresby and transfer to the Gateway
Hotel for overnight stay. |
Sep. 1st:
Internal morning flight from Port Moresby
to Tari and transfer to Ambua Lodge
for 6-night stay. Frequently patronised
by Sir David Attenborough in the past,
the Lodge, built in the Highlands architectural
tradition, boasts beautiful spacious
cabins with full en-suite facilities
and stunning, panoramic views of the
valley below. Time to rest, relax and
take it all in! |
Sep. 2nd-6th:
5 days to explore the magic of the Highlands.
Driving up the mountain road towards
Tari Gap, some 9000 feet above sea level
and amongst luxuriant moss forest may
be found the stunning King of Saxony
Bird of Paradise along with Ribbon-tailed
Astrapia, Crested Bird of Paradise,
Brown Sicklebill & Loria’s
Bird of Paradise. Dropping towards the
valley below may well produce both the
Blue and Superb Birds of Paradise along
with Black Sicklebill & Lawes’s
Parotia. Diligent searching may hopefully
produce the stunning and unforgettable
Raggiana Bird of Paradise, the classic
BOP! Walking around the Lodge grounds
& trails to observe Silky &
Coral Ferns, Spiral Palms, Dendrobium
Orchids & Wild Begonias along with
many more birds – Buff-banded
Rail, Papuan King-Parrot, Moustached
Tree-Swift, Papuan Scrub-Wren &
Great Wood-Swallow to name but a few!
Also opportunities to visit villages
and experience local culture including
contact with the famous Huli Wigmen,
the largest ethnic group in the Southern
Highlands, along with a Sing-Sing! |
Sep. 7th-8th:
Morning departure and return flight
from Tari to Port Moresby and onward
flight to Brisbane, arriving early evening
and transferring to the Royal on the
Park Hotel for 2-night stay. Situated
opposite the Botanic Gardens and adjacent
the Brisbane River, ample opportunity
to relax and explore Brisbane before
the second part of the Tour. |
Sep. 9th:
Morning flight from Brisbane to Honiara
and onward flight to Seghe, New Georgia
Island, where transfer by boat across
the Marovo Lagoon to Uepi Island Resort
for 4-night stay. |
Sep. 10th-12th:
3 days to just relax and enjoy the stunning
Island Resort! Lie in your hammock and
watch Beach Kingfisher, Cardinal Lory,
Metallic Starling & Lesser Frigatebird.
Explore the Green Forest Walk and maybe
stumble across the rare Coconut Crab
or glimpse a Blyth’s Hornbill
overhead. Snorkel and gaze at the amazing
variety of tropical fish within feet
of the jetty – Angel Fish, Parrot
Fish & Butterfish along with Purple
Starfish, Black-tipped Reef Shark and
the most stunning array of corals ever
seen! Visit the Carver’s Market
for that special souvenir or take a
boat ride to an uninhabited islet and
just swim, snorkel and enjoy a little
piece of heaven! |
Sep. 13th:
Return boat across Marovo Lagoon to
catch morning flight from Seghe back
to Honiara and onwards to Brisbane,
arriving early evening where the Tour
finishes.
